Andy Murray - Reports From The River Tweed

Yes, the first salmon of the season has been landed-an 11lb sea liced hen which took a 2 inch Eternal Optimist tube. This has settled the nerves and we look forward to another successful season. The weather has been very wintry of late and the river today is about a foot over normal summer level which is very fishable with tube flies.

My fellow ghillie Dougie and I have consulted our records and here are our top 5 flies for the lower half of the Tweed:

1 Cascade-tubes, trebles and doubles sizes 8,10,12, 2 Eternal Optimist-tubes 1 inch,2 inch 3 Variations of Ali Shrimps-mainly red and orange sizes 8,10,12-includes the famous ‘Dougie Shrimp’ 4 Pot Belly Pig-1 inch tube 5 Junction shrimp-tubes and sizes 8 and 10.
